Radon Testing – FAQ

What is the "acceptable" level of radon for a home?

The EPA is the one that establishes the action level for any property in the US. The level they have selected is 4 pCi/l. While there is much debate over this, this number is established by the federal government and what is used in every State.

The seller tested their home years ago and it was fine. Is the radon still OK?

According to the EPA, radon levels change all the time, and from day to day. They recommend retesting at a minimum of every 5 years. Also, hiring a professional ester ensures that the results are accurate.

Can I test myself?

As a home owner, and for your own information, yes you can. But during a real estate transaction they will usually require a professional tester such as us.

There is a mitigation system in the home I am buying already. Do I still need testing?

Yes. Not every mitigation system is installed or maintained properly. A radon test will help you see if it is working or not.
