Having your home remodeled might seem like a tempting concept, but whether or not it will be a wise investment depends greatly on the reason why you are doing it. A remodel can make your home look more modern and beautiful, but when everything is done, how does it affect the resale value of your home? Unfortunately, between 20% and 50% of the money that you spend on your remodel is really wasted. The resale value of your home will not go up in value by the full amount of the money you spend on the work. Even doing the work yourself will not get you enough of a return.
So considering that, if the remodel is only meant for your own pleasure, then it is an investment that you could do, but if you are trying to sell your home, you are much better off doing something simple and low cost, such as painting or landscaping, which will give you a much better return on your investment in time and money.
