Hummingbirds can only be found in the Americas, so we have the wonderful privilege of being able to enjoy them. Here are a few ways to keep your hummingbird feeder clean and safe for your hummingbirds.

The first way to care for your feeder is to clean your feeder twice per week in hot weather and once per week in cooler weather. Hummingbird feeders and hummingbird food can get dirty and moldy. This can be very dangerous for hummingbirds and their babies. If you don’t have a hummingbird cleaner brush, you can use a pipe cleaner or a bottle brush. These will work just as well.

Another way to care for your hummingbird feeder is by the food that you use. Hummingbird feeders do not need expensive hummingbird food. You can make your own food by heating up, but not boiling, 1:4 parts sugar to water. Heat the solution up until the sugar dissolves. Then after the solution cools, add it to your feeder. Also, you do not need to add food coloring.

These are just a few ways to help you care for your hummingbird feeder to keep the hummingbirds healthy and to keep them coming back.
