We all try to find ways to save money, and owning a home can cost quite a bit of money. You can usually group up your expenses into 2 different categories. The large costs that happen infrequently and the small ongoing costs that add up over time. Saving money on the big expenses might be what most focus on, but sometimes the small things actually end up costing you more in the long run.
Take your pipes, for example. Running water through uninsulated pipes can increase your energy bill quite a bit. The hot water running from your water heater to your tap could lose as much as 20% of its heat if the pipe isn’t insulated. Installing insulation can be complicated if your pipe mostly runs inside of the walls. However, even if you don’t want to start tearing up the walls, insulating the parts that are exposed will still make a difference.
