Mosquitoes can be extremely annoying when you’re trying to enjoy your backyard. Here are a few ways to help you to reduce your mosquito population.
The first way is to increase the number of mosquito predators in your yard. Bats and some birds love to eat mosquitoes, so try to install a bird or bat house to attract these predators. Bird or bat houses are easy to build, so you could even build one yourself or make it a fun family project.
Another way to reduce mosquitoes is to plant mosquito repellent plants. Some examples are lavender, marigolds, rosemary, bee balm, and citronella plants. Mosquitoes do not like these plants.
The last way to reduce the mosquito population is to get rid of any standing water. Tree holes, saucers of your outdoor flower pots, clogged rain gutters, and discarded cans and containers can all be breeding grounds for mosquitoes. Also, bird baths can be breeding grounds, just try to replace the water weekly in your bird baths. There are also products available to treat mosquitoes in your ponds or water gardens.
With these few ways, you will be able to reduce the mosquito population so that you are better able to enjoy your backyard.
